Water softening, iron and manganese removal filters
Water hardness, which is caused by relatively high amounts of dissolved calcium and magnesium salts, has a great influence on domestic water. Hard water damages home appliances: it clogs water heating boilers, kettles, washing machines, coffeemakers, mixers, etc. with scale. Hard water may also contain excessive iron, manganese and humus, which make it taste, smell and look unpleasant. For softening, IX-filters are recommendable, and for humus removal, IX HK filters. As humus and iron often go together, the best choice is the latter, which remove both of them. In the filter medium, which consists of sodium chloride (NaCl), commonly known as table salt, calcium and magnesium ions are replaced with sodium ions. This process is called ion exchange. The processed water is soft and scale is no longer produced. In addition to softening dissolved iron and manganese are removed. The substances, detained in the filter, are automatically flushed to a sewer. As the ion exchange capacity of the filter medium decreases after processing a certain amount of water, the sodium ions must be restored by passing a sodium chloride solution through the ion-exchange medium. Filtering cycles are followed by regeneration cycles. When installing a filter one must keep in mind that ample space for a brine container is needed. Available are filters that remove nitrates (NO3), as well. The capacity of softening and iron removal filters is 10 to 330 l/min. It is also possible to order individual solutions.

Key: GRP – filter frame fiber glass; PE – brine container polyethylene; RST – filter frame stainless steel; F – counter current regeneration, fill the brine container with softened water; (1) filter diameter; when calculating the necessary floor area the diameter of brine container (usually 500 mm) should be added;(2)max guaranteed capacity,short-term exceeding allowable;(3)salt demand for one regeneration, dosage may be adjusted according to need;(4)standard height may be altered.
Installation requirements
General
The filter should be placed onto a horizontal base and installed in a place where the temperature does not fall below 5 –10 °C. Nothing may be placed upon the filter. In order to ensure automatic flushing the filter should always be mounted behind the hydropneumatic accumulator. The filters 8, 10, 12, 13 and 14 are filled in the factory and ready to install and use.
Choosing a filter
For choosing a filter, a full analysis of the water is necessary. The capacity of the filter depends upon the water demand. All filters have a one-year guarantee. We offer special equipment and larger filter systems for industrial enterprises and settlements, as well.
Electricity supply
Earthed single-phase alternating current (230V). The filter is equipped with an adapter. Model RM 8 does not require electricity supply.
Water
The filter, which is recommended to be equipped with a pre-filter (e.g. FP2 9), is to be connected to the cold water pipeline, where the pressure is at least 1.4 bar (maximum pressure see table).
Sewerage
A sewer or other recipient, who is capable of receiving the filter flush water, must be available.
